Just to spice up this here blog: Square Dancing Tips

Okay, this blog has been kinda boring lately...mostly on my part because half of the six nuts have been out of town. So I just thought I'd spice up this place. So, here are some tips on Square Dancing. I've actually square danced a time of two in my life. Needless to say, that's why I play football. (Okay, Google is an amazing thing. If any of you think that I actually can give some square dancing tips...you got another thing comin'. So, I'm just gonna go on record saying that I have no idea what they are talking about below.)

Tip #1: Step on the beat of the music

Though we are much different than your average kind of dancing - square dancers still strive to take one step on each downbeat of the music. Calls have a specific "timing". That means there is "x" number of beats/steps to complete a call. If you take one step per beat you will find that you will have an easier time in accomplishing each call.

Tip #2: Keep the square smaller

It's easy for a square to get out of control. If you step on the beat of the music and don¹t take long lunging steps, you will automatically keep your square smaller but there are other things that are helpful. When promenading home the men should "spiral" inward so that their elbows are almost touching. This is a great help to the ladies as they must cover more distance during a promenade.

Tip #3: Breathe with the square.

When "Heads Promenade" or there is any movement where two couples have to travel around the outside, the other two couples should move in so that the outside couples do not have as far to travel. Just be sure to" breathe out" if that couple has to come into the center of the square.

Tip #4: Keep moving

There are times when some couples are inactive and it is easier for the inactive couples to get started again if they are not standing totally still. Small little steps in place, or a small (very small) step forward and back, anything to keep the beat of the music will help you get started easier when it's again your turn to be active.

So there you go...after reading this, ya'll should be better square dancers. As for me...I'll stick with football.

Sounds fun. Now all we need is some music, a caller, a few dancer, and Andrew can sit back and watch us all make idiots out of ourselves! We should thank him oh so sweetly for providing all this expertise for us. :)

What in the world is break dancing-or do we want to know? It sounds rather distructive to me.

Breakdancing - is a street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement among African American and Puerto Rican youths in the South Bronx of New York City during the early 1970s. It is normally danced to funk or hip hop music, often remixed to prolong the breaks, and is arguably the best known of all hip hop dance styles. - according to wikapedia

Break dancing is not only cool, it is highly appropriate, edifying, and uplifting and not nearly as offensive and immoral as square dancing.
